Authorise and control access to sources
The integrated project management function allows the administrator to oversee check-out, promotion and check-in phases, and also to designate development and test libraries on a project basis. PDE provides detailed project history reporting for a full accounting of all changes. Any project may be reviewed to see what source and objects were changed, who made the changes and when they were implemented into production. If required PDE can show every change ever made to each program. PDE gives total control over access to programs or objects through its check-out and check-in system to prevent unauthorised access and inadvertent overlay of changes.
Concurrent DevelopmentPDE manages the development by multiple programmers in the same source. The conflict management system retains software integrity and the concurrent changes are easily integrated with the automatic source compare and merge facility.

Version control system
PDE allows an unlimited number of versions, whether software releases or separate versions for different remote locations. Changes can be rolled back or earlier versions can be restored to use if ever necessary.

Previous versions archive
An unlimited number of versions can be archived and retained, available to be un archived and retrieved at a moment's notice. When a source is modified, the archive is updated with the changes from the project. All source is archived in a compressed format taking less than 25% of original spaceWith PDE's special techniques hundreds of versions can be stored in less space than the original un archived source

Flexible Authorisation Control
PDE protects your production systems by ensuring that no unauthorised changes are made. This does not prevent authorised changes being made to production versions for emergency error correction, but these changes are then notified to any programmers developing the same programs, and such 'fixes' are rippled back to other versions.

Automated software distribution
PDE/400 provides a facility for easily distributing changes to multiple local or remote installations. Intelligent recreation of objects
Integrated into PDE is a powerful object creation facility. This keeps track of object ownership, authority and all other attributes. When changing objects, the programmer no longer has to remember how to recreate the object; all objects are automatically recreated identical to the original unless specifically overridden.

With PDE the many tedious steps of changing a file are a thing of the past. When a file is modified all physical and logical files are automatically recreated, and the existing data is mapped into the new file. PDE can also recreate all objects that reference the recreated files.

PDE logs all changes to programs and other objects automatically. The built in Quality Assurance standards and complete change control ensures that audit requirements are easily met. Auditors can quickly check the detail in the secured Project History Log for a complete history of all programming activity. Every change is documented showing who made the change, when it was done, which programs were changed, exactly what was changed and who authorised the promotions through testing to production.
